Please wait...The Sportsmed was the world's first hand-held electromedical device to combine a nerve stimulator and a muscle stimulator (TENS - Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulator, and NMS - Neuro Muscular Stimulator). As such, it is the premiere piece of equipment for a range of applications, including; pain relief, accelerated healing and muscle strengthening, as well as inducing sleep and relaxation.
Range of applications:
Tennis Elbow, Wrist Sprain, Muscular Aches & Pains, Fractured Ribs, Tom Meniscus of the Knee, Sprained Ankle, Shin Splints, Achilles Tendonitis, Brusing, Torn/Strained Hamstring, Infra-patella Tendonitis.
The Sportsmed is the sports person's dream machine. It's affordable, it's portable - and it really works!
The Sportsmed is a professional high quality Multiple Modality Medical Electrical Stimulation Therapy System, for healthcare proferssionals, industrial medical centres, community health centres and hospitals, and for individuals.
This enables Intensive treatment to be applied over extended periods of the day and night, to achieve optimised results in managing chronic pain, to rapidly heal injury and to rehabilitate after injury of illness.
The Sportsmed significanltly enables healthcare professionals to achieve more effective therapeutic benefits that previously obtainable, by using multiple modality application changes in treatment.
The benefits include:
- Selection of the apropriate output modality
- Extended treeatment times and repetition of application
- On Demand drug free analgesia
- Rapid healing of injuty
- Clinical, ambulatory, work and home applications
Stress incontinence is defined as the involuntary discharge of urine due to a physical action (such as coughing or straining), which opens the bladder orifice. It is often caused by a deterioration in the tone and neural control of the pelvic floor muscles - due to ageing, prolonged inactivity, child birth, surgery, etc..
BIOSTIM®'s Incontrol is an excellent way of strengthening the muscles of the pelvic floor in the treatment of stress incontinence. It has been found to be an effective and satisfying form of therapy that is inexpensive and discrete. It can be done in the privacy of one's own home at any time of the day or night. Either the InControl or the Sportsmed machine can be used, as outlined below.
Placement of Applicators:
a. The internal electrode is placed into the vaginal passage. (Men have similar results using the anal passage). or;
b. One large surface electrode is placed over the sacrum and one small surface electrode on the perineum (the area between the anus and the vagina).

* Gentle, but the patient should be able to feel the muscles working.
Dosage
Use Methods A & B for equal amounts of time. Sessions should be once daily, starting at up to 15 minutes total stimulation time (ie. 7.5 minutes for each method). Build up to one hour per day, adding five minutes at a time. It should take about two weeks to get to 60 minute sessions. If the patient can only tolerate 5 minutes per session then begin a therapy regimen in line with her tolerance level, gradually increasing the stimulation time every week as described earlier
Results
The patient should feel beneficial results after about 3 weeks of daily therapy and peak results in 8-10 weeks.
Please Note:
Soreness During Stimulation
This should not be felt. This is definitely not an example of 'no pain - no gain'. The stimulation should be comfortable at all times - if it is not, check the placement of electrodes or simply turn down the intensity.
Over the course of treatment, as your muscles get stronger, you will be able to turn up the intensity - but not in the early stages.
Soreness After Stimulation
As with any muscle exercise, soreness afterwards is common. This simply means the muscles are getting stronger. Never have the next session of stimulation if you are still sore from the last one.
Internal Electrode Care
Wash before and after every session with soapy water. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
Other Treatments
Pelvic floor strengthening exercises. – this is A MUST. The patient MUST combine proper pelvic floor exercises TOGETHER with the stimulation felt by the internal electrode.
