What makes Cancer Bush so popular?

It is hard to overstate the benefits of Cancer Bush (AKA Sutherlandia Frutescens). As one of South Africa's most ancient and best-known medicinal plants, It has been used by all our people groups, since, well, whenever. Cancer Bush helps for a huge variety of health issues. Like ginseng in Asia, Cancer Bush is an adaptogen, meaning it rallies the body's own resources to repair itself from stress damage.

Some benefits, based on traditional use, anecdotes and case reports:

Brain, Mind and Mood

Cancer Bush has been used to support mental and emotional stress, including irritability, anxiety, grief and depression. Widows of slain Zulu warriors used Sutherlandia as a gentle tranquilliser during the mourning period. They called it "unwele", meaning "hair", since it stopped them from pulling out their hair in grief.
The plant is a traditional treatment for emotional shock and stress. Agitated warriors returning from battle would drink an infusion of Sutherlandia "to take the war out" – i.e., as a calming herb.
The ancient Zulu name Insiswa means 'the one which dispels darkness' alluding to its anti-depressant effect.

Lungs

Cancer Bush was traditionally used to good effect to combat the symptoms of 'flu' during the 1918 influenza pandemic, and is still used to treat 'flu' to this day (hint hint). It is traditionally believed to shorten the duration and severity of the illness and it can also be taken as a tonic for post-'flu' symptoms.
Cancer Bush has traditionally been used in the treatment of asthma symptoms. It also has a centuries-long traditional use to treat TB and bronchitis.

Immunity

Cancer Bush is often used to treat non-specified wasting diseases.
It has a profound immune boosting effect, which is very useful during cancer chemotherapy.

Stomach and Gut

The use of Cancer bush can treat symptoms of 'heartburn', reflux oesophagitis, gastritis, peptic ulcers, diarrhoea and dysentery. It ca be used as a supportive remedy for people with liver conditions. It is slightly purgative and has therefore been used as a gentle remedy for constipation.
Cancer Bush can reduce pain and inflammation in IBS, Chron's and Ulcerative colitis. It is also useful in symptom relief of diverticulitus.

Kidneys and More

Cancer Bush is widely used to treat urinary tract infections, including gonorrhoea, and cystitis, particularly what would nowadays be termed 'interstitial cystitis'.
It has a remarkable effect on female urinary incontinence. If taken for 2-3 months, it is known to often clear up all symptoms altogether.

Heart

Anecdotes and case reports indicate that Cancer Bush helps reverse even advanced heart failure in a matter of months. In many cases, the patients are able to resume a normal life within a couple of weeks.

Diabetes

Herbalists widely use Cancer Bush to treat diabetes. Various case reports show that it lowers blood glucose profoundly within about a month of use. It does not cure diabetes, but it certainly helps.

Muscles, Joints and Bones

Cancer Bush can treat gout, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.
It also helps patients gain muscle mass and strength, especially after a prolonged sick-bed.

Cancer

To this day Cancer Bush is used as a traditional treatment to improve quality of life in patients with malignant tumors. It helps increase appetite and muscle mass. This is where the popular name "Cancer Bush" comes from. Roughly half of cancer victims do not die from their cancer. They die from eating too little, or losing too much muscle mass (mainly due to loss of appetite). Cancer Bush is one of the few herbs known that reverses this condition, known as "cachexia". It is reportedly also very effective in "bouncing back the immune system" after chemotherapy.
Note: Folks who have normal weight, or are overweight do not experience this boost in appetite. Only the chronically ill experience it.

Romance

Southern Africa's tribes have celebrated Cancer Bush's potency-enhancing effects for a long time. A single high dose an hour or two before action is required does the trick (apparently, we wouldn't know).

Old age

Is there a cure for old age? No, but Cancer Bush can make the journey lighter and better. By inhibiting the loss of muscle mass that comes with old age, Cancer Bush helps the golden oldies stay mobile and active much longer.

In Conclusion

It is the apparent ability of Cancer Bush to adapt its effects to the needs of the user which has made it so popular among so many different people groups. Cancer Bush likely boosts the production of a few key hormones in the brain, but this remarkable plant has been researched very little.

Who can benefit from Cancer Bush?

  • The chronically ill (cancer, infections, heart failure, kidney failure, etc)
  • The elderly (in fact, anyone over the age of 45, not just the elderly)
  • Anyone battling an infection (whether virus or bacteria)
  • The incontinent (it boosts bladder muscle strength)
Note: An interesting recent popular use is for short stature teenagers to drink Cancer Bush for 2 years. This seemingly initiates a growth spurt. It is safe and effective for this indication.
